Biography
Brandon "The Cannon" Adams is an American professional boxer from Los Angeles, California, best known for his grit, street-hardened upbringing, and rise through boxing’s grassroots to national prominence. Born on July 31, 1989, in an area between Compton and Watts, Adams overcame an environment rife with gang violence and personal tragedy. He credits boxing for saving his life, having witnessed his brothers being shot and losing close friends to street violence. His early reputation for winning backyard brawls caught the attention of a neighbor, "Big Al," who took him under his wing and introduced him to the gym — a pivotal moment that changed his trajectory.
Adams trained under the legendary Dub Huntley, whose belief in his potential led Adams to an accelerated path in boxing. He turned pro at 21 after just a year of amateur experience, which is nearly unheard of in the sport. Known for his explosive power and tenacity, he began dominating local and regional bouts, earning the nickname "The Cannon." He gained enough respect within the boxing community to be invited into training camps with elite fighters like Gennady Golovkin, Shawn Porter, and Antonio Margarito.
After a controversial and draining experience in the 2015 Boxcino Tournament, where he had to shed 12 pounds in two days due to a false doping accusation, Adams's career faced setbacks. However, he rebounded powerfully by winning Season 5 of the boxing reality show The Contender in 2018, defeating Shane Mosley Jr. in the finale. This victory revitalized his career, but was bittersweet — his mentor Big Al passed away during this period.
In June 2019, Adams received his biggest opportunity yet: a WBC middleweight world title shot against Jermall Charlo in Houston. Despite losing by unanimous decision, Adams proved his mettle on the big stage, showing durability and courage against an elite champion. With a professional record of 25 wins (16 by KO) and 4 losses, Adams remains a respected and dangerous presence in the middleweight division, continuing to chase championship aspirations.
