Biography

Ezra Taylor (born 12 August 1994) is a British professional boxer who competes in the light-heavyweight division. Known by his nickname “The Cannon,” Taylor has become one of the leading new faces in British boxing, recognized for his precision, athleticism, and knockout power. As of 2025, he remains undefeated and holds the WBA Continental Gold light-heavyweight title, establishing himself among the country’s most promising contenders.

Born in Nottingham, England, Taylor first gained attention within the national amateur scene, where he became the first boxer in British history to hold five regional titles simultaneously. His amateur career, marked by discipline and consistency, provided the technical foundation and confidence that would serve him in the professional ranks. Taylor’s success at the amateur level also established him as a standout Midlands prospect, paving the way for his move into the paid ranks in 2020.

Taylor made his professional debut on 7 March 2020, stopping Jevgenijs Andrejevs in the second round at Nottingham’s Harvey Hadden Sports Village. The emphatic victory set the tone for his early career, defined by sharp combinations and an aggressive yet controlled style. Over the next few years, Taylor remained active and unbeaten, compiling victories across the domestic circuit and gaining experience through contests in venues such as York Hall, Wembley Arena, and the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham. His victories over Joel McIntyre, Prince Oko Nartey, and Carlos Alberto Lamela demonstrated his progression, the latter earning him the vacant WBC International light-heavyweight title in July 2024.

In May 2025, Taylor claimed the vacant WBA Continental Gold light-heavyweight title with a unanimous decision win over Troy Jones at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, showcasing his ability to combine technical control with sustained offense over longer distances. Scheduled later that year to face Lewis Edmondson for the British and Commonwealth titles, Taylor saw the bout postponed due to his opponent’s injury. He is now set to meet Steed Woodall in a non-title contest, maintaining his momentum as one of Britain’s most dynamic fighters. With an undefeated record of 12 wins (8 by knockout), Ezra Taylor continues to rise steadily toward championship contention in one of boxing’s most competitive divisions.
