Biography
Zhan Sergeevich Kossobutskiy is a Kazakh professional boxer who has held the WBC International heavyweight title since May 2022.
Kossobutskiy made his professional debut against Edgars Kalnars on 23 September 2017, and won by a first-round technical knockout. He amassed an 11-0 record during the next two years, winning all but one of the fights by stoppage.
Kossobutskiy, a 34-year-old southpaw from Kostanay, Kazakhstan, has only gone the distance once in his career, and has not gone past the sixth round since August 2020. In 2021, he achieved a 3-0 record with three knockouts and continued his success in 2022, defeating former world title challenger Johann Duhaupas in the fifth round and securing a third-round knockout over previously unbeaten contender Hussein Muhamed in November. Kossobutskiy is looking forward to the challenge of fighting in the United States and in Anderson’s hometown, believing that such bouts are essential for the heavyweight division. He admitted to not having watched Anderson’s fights yet, but plans to analyze them during his training preparation.
