Former WBC junior lightweight champion Miguel Berchelt is set to return to the ring on October 11, headlining a Zanfer Boxing event in Reynosa, Mexico. Berchelt will face Venezuela’s Edixon Perez in a lightweight contest as he continues his bid to re-establish himself in the division.
Berchelt (41-3, 36 KOs) once ruled the 130-pound ranks before his reign ended abruptly in 2021 when he suffered a devastating knockout loss to Oscar Valdez. The defeat marked the end of his five-year championship run and was followed by another stoppage setback against Jeremia Nakathila in 2022.
Since then, the 33-year-old Mexican fighter has rebuilt with three consecutive victories over domestic opponents, aiming to prove that “El Alacran” still has what it takes for another title campaign. This bout marks his fifth outing at 135 pounds, a weight where he continues to search for consistency and confidence.
Perez (30-13-1, 24 KOs), also 33, arrives as a seasoned but fading veteran with just three wins in his last nine fights. Known for his toughness, the Venezuelan is expected to provide Berchelt with a test of endurance more than danger.
