Diego Pacheco, a rising star in the super-middleweight division is set to headline Matchroom’s fight night in Monterrey, Mexico, where he defends his WBO International and USWBC titles against Manuel Gallegos live on DAZN.
Pacheco turned professional with Hearn in December 2018, and with his fearsome power and unwavering determination, the 22-year-old has rapidly established himself as one of boxing’s most exciting prospects. Most recently, he recorded his 15th win in the paid ranks, stopping Jack Cullen in four rounds in Liverpool. His next fight, a ten-round bout against Gallegos, represents the seventh time he’ll step through the ropes as a pro. The Mexican contender ranked #2 in Mexico behind Canelo Alvarez and #11 in the WBO, presents a challenge Pacheco is eager to overcome.
Extending his contract with Matchroom, Pacheco expressed his excitement and gratitude, “We have been on the path to the top for nearly five years and I couldn’t be in a better place to achieve my goals,” Pacheco said, making it clear his eyes are set on world championship glory. Gallegos, meanwhile, intends to disrupt Pacheco’s ascension, promising a fierce fight, “I hope Pacheco is prepared to fight for his life on July 7, because I'm coming to take everything he's got.”
Hernandez’s fight against Tovar serves as the co-main event. After signing a long-term deal with Matchroom, Hernandez aims to solidify his status as the top contender for the world championships at 130 lbs. Tovar, however, is undaunted by the Mexican's record and intends to seize this opportunity to prove his mettle on the big stage. Eddie Hearn voiced his excitement at securing both young talents and having them on the same card, “Diego is the best young talent in the game... From the day he first put pen to paper with us... there’s been no doubt in my mind that he would get to the very top... Rocky can almost reach out and touch that World Title shot. This one is slated for ten rounds, but both guys will be looking for an early night.”
