Fight Details

June 28 has a new boxing capital: Hull’s Connexin Live Arena will host Shakan Pitters (20-2, 7 KOs) versus Brad Rea (20-1, 10 KOs) for the vacant European light-heavyweight crown after a saga of false starts and late withdrawals. Originally ticketed as chief support in Galway, the bout now tops the rescheduled GBM Sports card and streams live on DAZN.

Fans might feel déjà vu. In February, Pitters watched champion Daniel Blenda Dos Santos scratch in Sheffield; the reshuffled April date in London collapsed when Pitters himself was hospitalised. Rea stepped in, only for Dos Santos to pull out hours before the opening bell. The EBU stripped the Frenchman and ordered Pitters-Rea, but even that pairing shifted across the Irish Sea when logistical issues nixed the Galway show. At last, both contenders have travelled through misfortune to the same ring.

For Pitters, 35, the night is a chance to add continental gold to a résumé that already includes the British title. For 27-year-old Rea - who rebuilt at 175 lbs after a 2022 loss to Tyler Denny - it’s redemption after watching opportunities in Saudi Arabia and London evaporate. “Winning this belt secures world-level doors,” promoter Izzy Asif noted, predicting a “hell of a contest” between two fighters who’ve refused to be derailed.

The undercard keeps the evening thick with comeback stories: world-ranked junior-welter Sean McComb returns, heavyweight Hughie Fury gets another run-out, and unbeaten middleweight Shakiel Thompson hunts win number fifteen. Irish ticket-holders can claim refunds, but DAZN will beam the action home - and, if the past five months are any guide, every man on the bill will fight like this is the chance they almost lost.
