Ramirez, of Avenal, California, returns to his familiar surroundings at the Save Mart Center, where he has fought six times before. After losing by unanimous decision to Josh Taylor in 2021 for the undisputed junior welterweight title, Ramirez bounced back in March by defeating former two-weight world champion Jose Pedraza. Since defeating Amir Imam to earn the WBC world title in March 2018, he has been among the finest 140-pounders in the sport. Ramirez won the WBC and WBO championships by defeating Maurice Hooker in six tough rounds after twice successfully defending that belt. In August 2020, he also defeated Viktor Postol by a majority decision to retain both belts; this victory paved the way for the Taylor match.
Accra, Ghana native Commey established himself as one of the best lightweights in the sport by earning Commonwealth medals before winning the IBF world title in February 2019. He defeated former world champion Ray Beltran during his 10-month tenure as champion before being stopped in the second round by Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden. Commey's lightweight career came to an end in December 2021 when he lost a decision to Vasiliy Lomachenko. In his junior welterweight debut in August of last year, he battled Pedraza to a 10-round draw.
