Patrice Volny has declared his intent to embody his nickname "Vicious" in an upcoming high-stakes duel on June 6, setting the scene for one of the most eagerly awaited encounters in recent Canadian boxing history. He is slated to face Steven "Bang Bang" Butler at the Cabaret du Casino de Montreal. This 10-round bout, crucial for local bragging rights, will also see the WBC Francophone middleweight title on the line, propelling the winner back onto the global stage.
This latest chapter in Quebec’s storied boxing rivalries is set to be broadcast on ESPN+.
Camille Estephan, president of the Montreal-based Eye of the Tiger, shared enthusiasm about the upcoming fight. He noted the fight aligns with the company’s goal to elevate Steven Butler back to prominence by "cleaning up our own backyard" first.
Steven Butler, ranked first in Canada at 160 lbs according to BoxRec, quickly defeated the country's then-number two, Ontario’s Steve Rolls, last March. Now, Butler is determined to ascend the world rankings once more by decisively ending his rivalry with fellow Montrealer Patrice Volny.

However, the task ahead appears formidable. While BoxRec ranks Butler as the world’s 14th best middleweight, Patrice Volny follows closely at 20th. Like his rival, Volny showcased his power by stopping American DeAndre Ware in the tenth round last February in Halifax. Now, as he returns to fight in Montreal for the first time in nearly seven years, Volny is poised to make a significant statement: "I'm not nicknamed "Vicious" for nothing."
