Featherweight hopeful Kevin Walsh (16-0, 9 KOs) takes his unbeaten record to Foxwoods Resort Casino on 10 May, topping a CES Boxing show against former world-title challenger Tramaine Williams (20-2, 6 KOs). Walsh, a 32-year-old southpaw from Brockton, extended his ledger in February when he halted Rhode Island’s Ricky de los Santos in eight rounds and believes a win in Mashantucket puts him on the fringe of the top-15 rankings.
Williams, also 32, brings the slick counter-punching style that carried him to a WBO super-bantamweight title shot in 2020, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Angelo Leo on ten days’ notice. The New Haven native has boxed only once under Queensberry rules since - a points loss to contender Elijah Pierce - before a frightening collapse during a Team Combat League outing last June. Williams later said dehydration from binge drinking and last-minute weight-cutting caused the incident; he insists a full medical evaluation cleared him and camp for Walsh has included nutritionists and daily hydration checks.
The undercard offers regional shoot-outs and unbeaten prospects: New Haven knockout artist Jacob Marrero (8-0, 7 KOs) steps up to lightweight against Wilfredo Flores (11-4-1, 5 KOs); Polish cruiser Slawomir Bohdziewicz (5-0, 4 KOs) risks 5-0 versus fellow puncher Russell Harris (6-1, 6 KOs); and Worcester heavyweight Ali Feliz (5-0, 4 KOs) returns after shoulder surgery against Arkansas spoiler Brandon Carmack (8-7-2, 5 KOs).
