Heavyweight contender Zhilei Zhang has stepped outside the ring to launch his first restaurant, Three Kingdoms BBQ, in the heart of New York City. Located on Eighth Avenue near Times Square, the venue introduces a traditional Chinese-style barbecue experience, complete with mini-fire grills at each table for sizzling meats and shared plates in a lively, communal setting.

The restaurant draws its name and spirit from Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the classic Chinese novel celebrating warriors renowned for loyalty, courage, and brotherhood. “The spirit of the Three Kingdoms became the original inspiration for our brand,” Zhang explained. “I hope this restaurant allows boxing fans and friends to come together, eat our barbecue straight off the grill, raise a glass and talk about the sport we love.” A signature highlight is the unique Xita sauce, inspired by flavors from Shenya in northeastern China.

Zhang has teamed up with restaurateur Peter Song, a close friend and longtime supporter who operates several Michelin-recommended restaurants. Song leads the operations, ensuring that Three Kingdoms BBQ blends authentic flavor with hospitality, while Zhang’s influence brings cultural storytelling and boxing camaraderie to the table.

Best known as “Big Bang” for his knockout power, Zhang is China’s most successful heavyweight, a 2008 Olympic silver medalist, and former WBO interim champion. With his new restaurant, he now seeks to combine his fighting spirit with a passion for food and fellowship, giving New Yorkers and boxing fans a place to gather and share in both culture and sport.
