Dave Allen may be on the verge of the biggest opportunity of his career. Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn revealed on the “Flash Knockdown Podcast” that contact has already been made with Deontay Wilder’s camp to explore a possible heavyweight clash.
First, however, Allen must navigate his October 11 showdown against Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield. Hearn described the fight as a litmus test for Allen’s readiness. “If Dave Allen beats Makhmudov, he puts himself in line for some huge fights,” Hearn said.
Allen has revitalized his career after years spent in the small-hall circuit. Once stopped by Dillian Whyte and Luis Ortiz in 2016, he has recently surged back into relevance with a spirited effort against Frazer Clarke in 2023 and a knockout win over Johnny Fisher in May.
For Wilder, the fight would mark another step in gauging what remains of his formidable power and presence at 39 years old. Since his trilogy with Tyson Fury, Wilder has endured defeats to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang but showed flashes of his old self with a stoppage win over Tyrrell Anthony Herndon in June.
