Lightweight contender Floyd Schofield Jr. has landed the biggest name of his career so far, as he is set to face former world champion Joseph Diaz Jr. on November 8 at the Dickies Arena in Texas. The clash serves as chief support to the Golden Boy Promotions main event between Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Erickson Lubin.

Schofield, known as “Kid Austin,” comes into the fight on the back of a blistering first-round knockout of Tevin Farmer in June. That performance solidified his position as the WBA’s number-one lightweight contender and kept him in line for a potential shot at division ruler Gervonta Davis. At just 23 years old, he has quickly become one of the most talked-about young fighters in the division.

For Diaz, this matchup represents another chance to prove he still belongs at the top level. The former IBF super featherweight champion has struggled in recent years and is coming off a punishing loss to Regis Prograis last month. Despite concerning signs during that bout, Diaz remains a durable and experienced name who can provide Schofield with a valuable test.

The bout also comes after Schofield withdrew earlier this year from a scheduled fight with WBC champion Shakur Stevenson. While that decision drew criticism, his destructive showing against Farmer helped silence doubters and reaffirm his status as a legitimate contender.

Elsewhere on the card, unbeaten heavyweight Joshua Edwards and rising prospect Darius Fulghum - looking to rebound from a defeat to Bektemir Melikuziev - will also be in action, though against softer opposition. Together, the lineup promises a mix of established names, hungry prospects, and future title implications.
