Gervonta Davis has doubled down on his intention to retire after facing Jake Paul on November 14 in Miami, declaring that his time in boxing is nearly over.
The 30-year-old WBA lightweight champion, undefeated at 30-0-1 (28 KOs), took to social media on Friday to voice his growing disillusionment with the sport. “Boxing definitely did a turn,” Davis wrote on X. “It went from this side to that side, and this shit has no loyalty. So why would I care? I move accordingly. Boxing is dead.”
When challenged by a fan, Davis replied bluntly: “I am in, eight weeks.” The comment reinforced that his exhibition with Paul will serve as his farewell.
This isn’t the first time Davis has flirted with retirement. Ahead of his March fight against Lamont Roach Jr., he insisted he would step away by year’s end, only to reconsider after their bout ended in a controversial majority draw. A planned rematch never materialized, leaving Davis to pivot toward the crossover spectacle with Paul.
If he does follow through this time, Davis’ career would end with an unbeaten record in official bouts, but also with lingering questions about what could have been had he remained committed to defending his titles and testing himself against the sport’s other elite names.
