Kenshiro Teraji, the unified WBA and WBC junior flyweight titleholder, has vacated his titles to move up to the flyweight division. Teraji, a prominent figure in the junior flyweight class, is reportedly eyeing the now-vacant flyweight title recently relinquished by Julio Cesar Martinez, according to ESPN's Salvador Rodriguez.

Teraji, 32, initially claimed the WBC junior flyweight title in 2017 but faced a setback when he was knocked out by Masamichi Yabuki in 2021. Demonstrating resilience, he avenged that loss in an immediate rematch in 2022. Throughout his career, Teraji has made 12 successful world title defenses, including a notable unification bout against Hiroto Kyoguchi, whom he TKO'd in the seventh round, and most recently securing a majority decision over Carlos Canizales on January 23.

The move to flyweight marks Teraji's transition to his second weight division, having spent his entire professional career at junior flyweight. This strategic shift is aimed at capturing new opportunities and further cementing his legacy in a higher weight class.

Angel Ayala, the current number-one contender, has been ordered to face Dave Apolinario for the vacant IBF title, which was recently vacated by Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez following his move up in weight. Should Ayala and Apolinario clash for the IBF belt, Francisco Rodriguez Jr., ranked as the No. 2 contender, could emerge as a future opponent for Teraji, setting the stage for a potential bout for the vacant flyweight title.
