Two weeks removed from a bruising, fan-friendly win over JoJo Diaz in Chicago, Regis Prograis says the fire still burns. The 36-year-old southpaw admits he expected a routine night but was rocked early before grinding out a 10-round decision - fuel for a renewed chase to become the first three-time world champion at 140lbs.
Prograis insists longevity is on his side, crediting a clean lifestyle and year-round discipline: no drinking or drugs, careful weight, and punishing gym work in Las Vegas alongside fighters a decade younger. “I still love it,” he said, while acknowledging the sport’s shelf life. “Right now, it’s not that time” to stop.
The former WBA and WBC titlist isn’t keen on rerunning Diaz; he wants belts. He’s eyeing Oscar Duarte - especially if Duarte lands a title following his latest eliminator - while ruling out gym-mate Kenneth Sims. Other live options at 140 include Jose Ramirez and Arnold Barboza, with a return targeted for November or December.
Now managed by Brian Peters and coming off a Golden Boy main event, Prograis frames his timeline around legacy and faith: regain a strap, then consider the exit. “I’m always hungriest without the belt,” he said. “Make me a three-time champion—and maybe that’s when I can finally put them down.”
