Teofimo Lopez has reignited tensions with Shakur Stevenson by branding the unbeaten former three-division champion as “overrated.” Speaking to Stories Untold, Lopez claimed Stevenson has been in decline since moving up to lightweight, despite his spotless 24-0 (11 KOs) record.
“The most overrated boxer right now? I’ll say it. I think Shakur Stevenson, whom I’m going to be facing. I think he’s overrated. He’s been decreasing on his style, but people amp it up like he’s really got the goods,” Lopez said of the Newark star, with their anticipated showdown penciled in for the first quarter of 2026.

Stevenson has faced scrutiny since his lightweight debut against Shuichiro Yoshino in April 2023. While he maintained his unbeaten streak with wins over names such as Robson Conceicao, Edwin De Los Santos, and William Zepeda, critics argue he has not shown the same sharpness that defined his reign at 130lbs. Lopez’s comments echo a growing narrative among some fans that Stevenson has struggled to adapt at the higher weight.
