A sold-out crowd at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, witnessed a thrilling fight as unbeaten Angelino “Huracan” Cordova (18-0-1, 12 KOs) took on hard-hitting Angel “Tito” Acosta (23-4, 22 KOs) in the main event for the WBO International Flyweight championship.
Throughout the intense 10-round bout, Cordova consistently out-landed Acosta. Despite a cut on Cordova’s left eyebrow caused by a head clash in the third round and a point deduction for hitting behind Acosta’s head in the fourth, the Venezuelan fighter remained undeterred. Acosta showcased his skills with effective body shots and even knocked Cordova’s mouthpiece out three times during the fight, but it wasn’t enough to secure the victory.
In the end, the judges scored the fight 96-93, 95-94 twice in favor of Cordova.
In the co-main event, featherweight Jorge Chavez (6-0, 5 KOs) scored a fifth-round knockout against Alberto “Pupo” Nieves (4-3-1, 2 KOs) in a scheduled six-round fight. Chavez dominated the bout, ultimately sending Nieves to the canvas twice in the fifth round with powerful body shots, securing the victory.
