Osleys Iglesias has quickly built a reputation as one of boxing’s most violent finishers at super middleweight, but when he faces Vladimir Shishkin on September 4 in Montreal, the Cuban may need to show more than his trademark fireworks.

Iglesias (13-0, 12 KOs), known as “El Tornado,” has blasted through most of his opposition with chilling efficiency, including a one-round demolition of Evgeny Shvedenko in 2024 and a two-round knockout of Sena Agbeko earlier this year. His highlight-reel knockouts have drawn comparisons to fellow Cuban southpaw David Morrell, another fighter from the new school of Cubans who prefer to attack rather than evade.

Shishkin (16-1, 10 KOs), however, presents a different puzzle. The Russian is durable, disciplined, and stylistically conservative. His decision win over Jose Uzcategui showed he can outbox seasoned veterans, but his loss to William Scull last year highlighted his tendency to let rounds slip away without asserting himself. Against a puncher like Iglesias, passivity could be fatal.

Still, Shishkin’s solid jab and ability to extend fights offer a contrast to Iglesias’ all-action style. If the Cuban doesn’t find an early finish, he may need to prove he can adjust, box, and manage a fight that doesn’t unfold at his pace.

Vote for the best fighter.
