Undisputed two-division female world champion Claressa Shields (13-0, 2 KOs) will now defend her titles against WBC, WBO, IBF #1 ranked middleweight contender Maricela “La Diva” Cornejo (16-5, 6 KOs) in the main event on June 3 from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
Originally, Hanna Gabriels was scheduled for a rematch with Shields. However, due to Gabriel's positive test for a banned substance during a May 2 VADA test conducted as part of the WBC Clean Boxer Program, the promoter Salita Promotions made the necessary change.
Returning to the United States for the first time since her 2021 victory over Marie-Eve Dicaire in Flint, Michigan, Shields stands as the undisputed junior middleweight champion. At 28 years old, she’s already one of the most accomplished fighters in boxing history, with titles across junior middleweight, middleweight, and super middleweight categories.
Shields’ most recent victory took place in a sold-out all-female card at London’s O2 Arena, where she defeated Savannah Marshall for the undisputed middleweight title. This win not only avenged the sole boxing loss of her career but further solidified her status as a twice undisputed middleweight champion. As the stage is set for this epic rematch, the world eagerly anticipates the outcome of what is sure to be a thrilling display of boxing prowess.
In the co-feature, undefeated Ardreal Holmes (13-0, 5 KOs) will meet Wendy Toussaint (14-1, 6 KOs) in the ten-round junior middleweight bout.
